Making the shower, toilet, bath and basin easier and quicker to clean.

Few people like cleaning the bathroom, one of the most germy and dusty rooms in the home.

Unfortunately it must be done regularly for hygiene and to look and feel fresh.

So instead of wasting time and effort using expensive products that don't work well, there are plenty of hacks you can try that speed up the process and/or save you money.

We've rounded up our favourite tricks and tips, which cover the shower, toilet, mould and more.

Read on to discover our top bathroom cleaning hacks that actually work.

Clean the shower after each use (or while you're in it) to save time and prevent the space from getting too grimy and foggy by using a dish brush or wand.

Just add your preferred dishwashing detergent to the handle and scrub away as needed.

You can pick up these handy cleaning tools from the supermarket for as little as $2.50.

The pictured dish brush is from Kmart and features both a sponge and a scrubbing brush for just $4.50.

This particular cleaning tool was recommended by The Big Clean Co's Kacie Stephens, who posted about the product on TikTok.

She thinks the product is a great tool because it makes cleaning "convenient".

To reach all those nooks and crannies around tap fixtures and the shower, use an old toothbrush.

The gentle bristles and small shape also make them great for cleaning grout too.

Just make sure it's an old one and no longer in use – you wouldn't want to mix up your current toothbrush with your cleaning one.

Instead of paying for a bathroom specific cleaning spray, just add a couple of drops of detergent into a spray bottle with water.

This DIY multipurpose spray works well for general bathroom cleaning and can be used on the basin, vanity, bath, shower and toilet.

You can also just drizzle dishwashing liquid straight onto a wet cloth of scourer if you prefer.

Keep your toilet smelling nice by popping a few drops of essential oil in the toilet paper roll.

You can also add a few drops of essential oil to a cotton ball and pop that in the bottom of your bathroom bin before adding a bag.

This hack gives the room a subtle fragrance without being overpowering.

Shaving cream isn't just for removing hair, you can use it to clean too.

Professional organiser and home hacks guru Anita Birges recommends shaving cream for crystal clear shower glass.

"The shaving foam will not only clean your shower, leave it smelling great, but it also leaves a protective layer on the shower door, which helps prevent fogging and limescale," she said.

Give it a scrub and then polish with a microfibre cloth.

Squeegeeing excess water off your shower might seem like the last thing you want to do after a shower, but it makes a big difference.

This task stops grime and limescale from collecting on your tiles and shower screens, making it easier to clean later on.

Keep a squeegee in the shower as a reminder and so it's there ready for use.

All that water shower heads pump out results in debris and limescale collecting in and around the holes.

But shower heads are very tricky to clean, and aren't something we want to be taking on and off all the time.

So grab a plastic bag and fill it with vinegar. Submerge the shower head in the bag with the vinegar covering the holes and tie up as best you can.

Leave this bag on for at least 10 minutes, then remove and turn the shower on to flush the remaining vinegar and debris out.

Toilets can be smelly places, especially if you miss a spot while cleaning.

And even if you clean, sometimes you need to go in with another product to banish bad odours.

One Aussie mum uses shaving cream to rid her toilet floor of urine smells, and shared her hack with Facebook group Cleaning and Organising inspiration Australia

To try, apply shaving cream to the floor and leave on for at least 10 minutes. Then mop up, which some say is the downside to this hack as it gets a little messy.

One of the golden rules of cleaning is to always dust before applying product.

To do that, some people prefer using a few squares of toilet paper as they can just flush it away after.

You can also use toilet paper to wipe away the spray you've applied to the toilet, which saves having to clean a germy cloth.

The toilet brush does a lot of work cleaning our toilets but often doesn't get cleaned itself.

The easiest way to dry it is a hack shared by home hacks guru Carolina Mccauley on her TikTok channel.

She recommends placing the handle of the toilet brush in between the toilet bowl and seat so that it can dry.

While it's there pour a jug of water (which can be hot but not boiling) over the brush to rinse it off, spray disinfectant and leave it to dry.

Don't forget to disinfect the handle and holder too, as they can also collect germs.

DIY cleaning products often work just as well as store bought and can be much cheaper too.

You can even make your own toilet cleaning bombs, according to home hacks queen Chantel Mila, who shared the recipe on TikTok.

Similar to bath bombs, these balls are dropped into your toilet and fizz up in the water. Then you can scrub with your toilet brush.

To make, combine a cup of bi-carb soda, a quarter cup of citric acid and 10 drops of essential oil.

Then spray the mixture with water until it has a sand-like consistency. Once your mixture feels right, push it into ice cube moulds and wait for it to set before using.

Instead of store-bought mould removal products or chlorine bleach, you can make your own spray that works just as effectively.

This DIY cleaner comes from professional organiser Anita Birges. She makes it by adding one cup of vinegar, 10 drops of clove oil and 10 drops of tea tree oil to a spray bottle.

Vinegar and clove oil are both known for being effective mould killers, while tea tree oil helps prevent mould returning.

Once your spray is made, spritz it onto your shower tiles or wherever you see mould and scrub. Leave for 20 minutes and rinse off.
